The United Kingdom
The official title being the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
today. Ireland joined to Great Britain in 1801. We are an island nation hard
for the Romans to get here and when they did, yes you got it, they were so put
off by the weather they went home eventually. In 1922 most of Ireland, that being
all except six of the counties in the Province of Ulster, became independent.
The UK, a shortened term for the United Kingdom, is a member of the EU, in 1975
a British referendum endorsed membership. We are also head of the Commonwealth
of Nations. The total area of the United Kingdom is 241,752 sq km. The capital
of England and largest city in the UK, also the largest city in Europe, is London.
Great Britain
The Act of Union of England and Scotland created Great Britain constitutionally in 1707. Great Britain is basically the largest land mass that being England, Scotland and Wales.
