Standing in 13 acres of well kept, picturesque grounds with finely manicured lawns, carefully tended borders that burst into life in the spring and a restored traditional Victorian walled garden, all surrounded by the unmatched beauty of the Somerset countryside; our magnificent Victorian Gothic mansion is the perfect spot for a relaxing break. Originally built in 1838 it has been carefully maintained as a fine country house and lovingly converted into the exceptional hotel that it is today. The interior of the house is exactly as you would expect an English country house to be, with high ceilings, elegant decoration and period furniture that could have stepped straight out of the 1930s. The ambiance and atmosphere is unique, family owned and operated there is a real warmth in the hospitality you receive and great care and attention to detail is taken in all areas, it is more like staying with good friends at their country retreat, than staying in a commercial establishment.
With just nine well proportioned, wonderfully decorated and superbly comfortable rooms you can be sure of attentive, personal service from courteous and helpful staff. All of our rooms have everything you will need to make your stay with us pleasant and enjoyable, including individually decorated and well equipped room with luxurious en-suite bathroom with bath or shower; remote control colour TV; direct dial telephone; hairdryer and hospitality tray with tea, coffee and biscuits. From our magnificent location there is a choice of wonderful views: the picturesque gardens, Wells Cathedral just a mile away across the fields, or the peaceful Somerset countryside.
A substantial full English breakfast, cooked on a traditional Aga cooker, is served in the dinning room, with views out across the main lawns. In the evening we will be happy to recommend and book your evening meal in one of the fine restaurants in Wells, transport can be arranged for you if required.
