Set in the heart of England's smallest cathedral city, we offer our guests a wonderful place to stay. The magnificent Wells cathedral was already three hundred years old when our own establishment was built directly opposite in the 15th century. Originally it was built as a coaching house, providing shelter and food for weary travellers who passed through the region and it has welcomed and cared for travellers to our area for over five hundred years. Today this long and noble tradition is continued, the only difference is that todays travellers are treated to some of the finest, most comfortable accommodation to be found in the area, and a superb selection of tasty foods and fine wines.
Much of the original splendour of the building has been retained and can be seen in the many original features, oak beams, wood panelled walls and original fireplaces. Each of our 50 well proportioned and individually decorated single, twin and double rooms has its own special character and is equipped with all of the facilities that you would expect from an establishment of this class, including stylish en-suite bathroom with bath or shower and complimentary toiletries; central heating; windows that you can open; a work area with desk, lamp, meeting/dinning table and direct dial telephone with fax and modem connection; iron and ironing board; hairdryer; radio alarm clock; comfortable sitting area; smoke detectors; security chain and hospitality tray with tea, coffee and biscuits.
Our award winning restaurant has an intimate and cosy ambiance, where you can enjoy your meal in comfort. The food is excellent, traditional English fayre, although a continental influence can occasionally be found. All of our food is lovingly created by our talented chef from the finest ingredients, all you need to do is select the wine to complete your dinning experience.
