Today our establishment is one of the premier, award winning hotels in the area, but it can trace its history all the way back to when it was built in the 17th century. Originally it was a coaching Inn, providing basic accommodation and satisfying food for weary travellers passing through the area on their way to or from London. Now, four hundred years later, we are still doing much the same, except that now we provide the very finest in luxurious accommodation, wonderfully relaxing and informal surroundings and a level of service that is second to none.
We have 83 well proportioned, well equipped and luxurious twin and double bedrooms, each one is individually decorated and has its own special charm. Although great care is taken to make certain that the original charm and character of the building is retained, we are continually updating and improving the facilities that we provide for our guests and all of our rooms now have an elegant en-suite bathroom with bath or shower and complimentary toiletries; central heating; opening windows; trouser press; hairdryer; radio alarm clock; remote control colour TV with satellite channels; a practical work area with desk, lamp and direct dial telephone; smoke detectors and tea and coffee making facilities.
For that special occasion some of our rooms have magnificent oak four poster beds, perfect for a honeymoon, anniversary or perhaps just for a romantic weekend break.
For your dinning pleasure we have the wonderful Thackeray's Restaurant, where you can relax in informal surroundings and on cold winter nights enjoy your meal in front of a cosy log fire. There is a wide choice of imaginative, contemporary dishes on offer, all freshly prepared for you from the finest ingredients.
We are a family establishment with a child friendly attitude, and have a dedicated outdoor play area to keep young children amused; we can also provide cots, cribs, highchairs and children's menus.
