The Abbey is a popular site and was founded by Henry I - this was the home to 100 monks who lived here peacefully. The Abbey ruins and inner gatehouse have their own story to tell and Forbury Gardens are entrenched with the walks and thoughts of the monks who lived here.
Ancient architecture fills the town with three medieval churches, the Gothic Town Hall and numerous Georgian and Victorian buildings. Both Rivers Kennet and Thames run through the town so be sure to take those pleasant watersedge walks and river boat rides.
