You will happen on many heritage sites and some worth mentioning include Durham Cathedral which is breathtaking - inside you will find a most enlightening and historical treasury. The Castle in Durham is home to the college and the only Oriental Museum resides here too - a taste of life in the East with exhibits from Egypt, India, Tibet, China and Japan.
The social scene includes pubs, restaurants and there's some good shopping or why not head in to Darlington for a much wider choice.
