The hotel was founded in 1891 by Higgins and Son of the nearby Castle Brewery, the brewery was part of the old Bedford Castle which unfortunately was destroyed along time ago. The original brewery now forms part of the Bedford Museum complex and Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, both just a few minutes walk away.
We have 20 well proportioned, elegantly decorated and supremely comfortable single, twin, double and family rooms, each one providing the very best in accommodation for our guests whether they are a single business traveller or family on holiday. All of our rooms have all of the facilities that the modern travel would expect in an establishment of this class, including stylish en-suite bathroom with bath or shower and complimentary toiletries; colour TV; direct dial telephone; central heating; windows that you can open; radio alarm clock; trouser press; smoke detectors and a beverage centre with tea, coffee and biscuits.
When you return in the evening there is a comfortable lounge bar area, ideal for relaxing with a drink from the bar or perhaps an aperitif before going in for dinner. Our Carvery restaurant has a wonderful reputation for the wide range of dishes it serves, the consistent excellence of the food and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. If you prefer you can take your meal in the lounge bar or if the weather is fine, you can dine al-fresco.
