Our magnificent stately country house stands in 440 acres of well tended gardens, parkland and superb Oxfordshire countryside. Built in the 18th century for the 12th Earl, and only Duke, of Shrewsbury this magnificent building was completely devastated by fire in 1831. It was not until 1869 that it was decided to restore it to its original condition. In the following years many alterations, extensions and improvements were made, although the elegance and charm of the original building was retained wherever possible. Today you will find the perfect blend of olde-worlde charm and elegance with many attractive antique items of furniture, porcelain and glass, side by side with the very latest in modern facilities and technology.
Rooms are either in the main building or in a modern annex, whichever you choose you will find that all our rooms are wonderfully comfortable and equipped with all the facilities you need to make your stay a pleasant and enjoyable experience. All of our rooms benefit from luxury en-suite bathroom with bath or shower; central heating; windows that you can open; colour TV; direct dial telephone; hairdryer and hospitality tray with tea, coffee and biscuits.
