Within walking distance of the town centre, our stylish and historic establishment offers you the ideal place to make your base while in this fascinating part of the country. From our central location there are many interesting and exciting places to visit, and there are many things for visitors of all ages to see and do. The town of Colchester has a long history, in fact it has the longest recorded history of any town or city in Britain, stretching back to AD77, and the Roman occupation.
Our building has stood on this spot in the town since it was built in the 14th century to provide shelter and food for travellers on the road to London. As you would expect many changes have occurred, with many alterations to the building as it was enlarged and improved to cope with the increasing demand. This process of refurbishing and improving is an on going process and we have just made our own addition with nine, spacious, air conditioned executive rooms recently being added. We now have thirty eight rooms in total and whether you prefer the oak beams and olde-worlde charm and character of the original house or the modern, air conditioned comfort of the new wing you can be sure that your room will be immaculately clean, supremely comfortable and equipped with all of the facilities that modern travellers expect in their choice of accommodation.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served in the stylish surroundings of our cosy restaurant, full of warmth and wonderfully elegant it is the perfect setting for enjoying the exquisite cuisine for which it has become famous.
