Although he wasn't the first person to enjoy the bracing sea air and safe bathing that this historic coastal town has to offer, when the Prince Regent visited in 1783 and declared that he had enjoyed it so much that he would spend time here, he launched a fashion for sea side holidays that has endured to this day.
