Our award winning hotel has been providing refreshment for travellers since it was first built as a Coaching Inn in 1765. With some of the oak beams and original walls still visible, they give a special character and charm to our warm and friendly establishment.
Nestling in the picturesque countryside of the South Downs, our magnificent 18th century Coaching Inn has been providing food and drink to visitors to our area for almost two hundred and fifty years, a fine tradition that we still continue to this day. Over the years the establishment has been renovated and improved as the requirements of the traveller have changed, and now we provide the very best in modern accommodation, superb food and excellent service for those that choose to stay with us.
The original building houses the superb, award winning, Chilgrove restaurant where you can sample the very finest in fresh and tasty food. Much of the menu is produced locally, including the lobster and sea bass, which are all caught in local waters. Our wine cellar has also won awards for the quality and diversity of it's wines, with over six hundred of the finest wines from around the world on offer. With superb food and the finest wines we are certain that even the most discerning of palettes will be satisfied.
The 8 well proportioned, tastefully decorated and wonderfully comfortable bedrooms are in a new custom designed block to the rear of the premises. All have their own entrance, en-suite facilities with power shower or bath; super-king size bed; controllable central heating; colour TV; direct dial telephone and hospitality tray.
If you are looking for an elegant and convenient venue for your wedding, we will be happy to use our experience of organising many similar events to make certain that even the smallest of details are attended to. Receptions of up to 60 guests are catered for in our restaurant, for more than 60 guests we erect a marquee in the grounds, with magnificent views across the rolling south downs.
