Spurred on by the Industrial Revolution, this South Cheshire town was a key
player in the construction of Britain's railway industry. There are many
attractions here to remind visitors of this past, most notably The Railway
Age, which is located opposite... you guessed it - the modern day train
station. The museum has a comprehensive collection of memorabilia and
models, from signal boxes to miniature railways - popular with both
enthusiasts and children. Despite once being a centre for construction,
Crewe is now a place of greenery, with two large parks situated within its
borders. One of these, Queens Park, is regarded as the finest in the whole
of the North West, and acts as a 50-acre oasis within the town. Lakemore
County Park, on the other hand, lies just outside, and is the proud home of
an animal kingdom and children's play area, complete with rides and crazy
golf! If you're looking for a bit of culture, then the historic Lyceum
Theatre is definitely the place to be. A Grade II listed building, its
substantial refurbishment in the 1990s lost it none of its spectacular
Edwardian decor. The plays at the theatre aren't the only shows the people
of Crewe put on however. Arrive on August Bank Holiday Weekend and you'll be
welcomed to the biggest free event in South Cheshire; the Crewe Carnival has
now past its centenary, and its line-up of live music, themed entertainment
