Swanage Hotels England Cheap Swanage Hotels GuideAn unrelenting strip of sandy beach and a traditional seaside atmosphere
have helped Swanage become one of the most popular resorts on Dorset's south
coast. Situated on the Isle of Purbeck (actually a peninsula) it stands as
the eastern gateway to the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site and one of
the country's natural wonders. Its official beginnings are marked by the
jagged chalk cliffs of the Old Harry Rocks just north of town; but beautiful
scenery exists all around (including one of Britain's best beaches at
Studland Bay). The town itself still bustles with all the energy brought by
its Victorian regeneration, aided now by an interesting selection of shops,
the ubiquitous floral displays, and the classic 100-year-old-plus wooden
pier. Many of the buildings are constructed with the local Purbeck marble
(which was also exported to London by the boat load), including the ornate
17th-century town hall, designed by Christopher Wren. The immediate
environment is home to a whole bunch of historical attractions, all easily
reachable via varying methods of transport. Walking is an option if visiting
Durlston Country Park, a 280-acre nature reserve that also houses Durlston
Castle. The 11th-century Corfe Castle, on the other hand (named as one of
the most evocative ruined fortresses in England) is just a short steam train
trip away... followed by a brief stroll up its hill of course! This site is here to allow you to book your cheap hotels in Swanage. Reservations online since 2001.
