Hotels Grantham England Cheap Grantham Hotels Guide
The largest town in the beautiful region of South Kesteven, Grantham has a
history of hosting famous visitors, as well a growing number of tourists. It
was a favourite stopping point of King John's in the 13th Century, the town
at which Isaac Newton was educated, a chosen writing place of Charles
Dickens and later, the birthplace of Britain's first female Prime Minister,
Margaret Thatcher. As well as some of the above, the fascinating Grantham
Museum has a section devoted to the Dambusters raid on West Germany in World
War II, which was largely planned here. Ever since the 12th Century, this
ancient market town has been popular with travellers - this began when what
was then known as The Great North Road (now the A1) was built through it.
Transport here is subsequently first rate, especially with fast, direct
trains running from London, Edinburgh and Newcastle, amongst others. Once
you've arrived, there's lots to see too, with stunning architectural
memorials to past figures and ages everywhere. There's the high-steepled St.
Wulfram's Parish Church in town, Woolsthorpe Manor (the birthplace of Isaac
Newton) just outside; where an Interactive Science Discovery Centre and
exhibition to the great thinker's childhood have been lovingly constructed,
and Harlaxton Manor, just 3 miles out of town - a magnificent, palace-like
building with a fairytale feel and stunning looks on both the inside and
out. A perfect base for exploring the rest of the lavish Kesteven and
Lincolnshire areas, this town holds both a key place in the geography of the
country and in its history. Looking for where to stay
