From Forres, you can follow the world's only malt whisky trail, which spans
the entire county from west to east. Stopping at eight carefully selected
distilleries (as well the multi-award-winning Speyside Cooperage), it's an
unbeatable excuse to either cruise the local landscape, or repeatedly sample
the "water of life". Each destination has been chosen for a certain
credential. Strathisla, in Keith, is the Highlands' oldest working
distillery; Glenfiddich produces the world's best-selling single malt; and
Cardhu was the only distillery to be pioneered by a woman. Moray is also
known for its numerous woodlands, and these too deserve to be visited one by
one. Along the coast, you'll find the pine forests of Culbin and Roseisle,
which both serve as perfect picnic spots against the Moray Firth's sandy
beaches. Others are concentrated around the valley or "strath" of the River
Spey, their towering oaks and conifers following it from the Cairngorm
Mountains, down, past some of East Scotland's most beautiful countryside. If
you're staying in capital Elgin, you should definitely take time to visit
the cathedral. It's considered one of Scotland's architectural triumphs,
and, although now ruined, it's remained standing throughout a life that's
seen it burnt, stripped of its roof and ravaged of its stone. Also worth
seeing is the Biblical Garden, which contains every plant mentioned in the
Bible (110, in case you weren't sure). If you need to stay
