Hotels Rutland England Cheap Rutland Hotels Guide

England's smallest county is living proof that size doesn't matter; with a huge amount of things to see and do stuffed within its borders. Measuring just 16 miles by 16 Rutland houses two main towns (Oakham and Uppingham) both with contrasting qualities to offer, as well as 54 villages dotted around its roaming rural backdrop. The county's centrepiece is the magnificent Rutland Water, Western Europe's largest man-made lake with an awe-inspiring 25 miles of shoreline around 3,100 acres of water. As well as its beauty there's much more on offer here: from water sports, to bird watching at the nature reserve. The lake is also famous for its fishing and is stocked with 130,000 trout every year, weighing up to a whopping 14lbs. Boat hire is available so you can travel as far out as you want in order to find that prime location. This small county is also big on history, as a trip to the superb 12th Century Oakham Castle will testify; a Norman manor house, it is a great starting point for exploring both the county's past and it's landscape. Some visitors like to take in a tour of the many charming villages, such as the beautiful Exton with its thatched cottages, Clipsham and its topiary walk and the picturesque Manton with its ancient church. Wherever you go you know you'll be assured of peaceful surroundings, good food and a warm welcome. Rutland can be reached from the A606 and B668 off the A1 and trains from major cities connect at Leicester and run to Oakham Station in under half an hour. The smallest county with the biggest reservoir. Rustic yet quaint. Freindly locals and space here to relax.
