It's also in one of the prettiest locations in the country with much of the surrounding countryside declared Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths are a prime example of this; stretching from the Eastern fringe of the town and taking in 150 square miles of the county's coastline - claiming forests, shingle beaches, small villages and castles within its borders. The town itself is also pleasing on the eye with a diverse and vibrant landscape including the ultra-modern Waterfront developments, the lively town centre and picturesque Orwell River. There's also a lot to do as well as to look at with the town being regarded as the entertainment capital of the county with a wide array of cinemas, theatres, clubs, bars and restaurants. The town has great transport links and can be reached in just over an hour from London Liverpool Street via rail. Coach services run daily from Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham and London Victoria and overseas visitors can even come by ferry to the nearby town of Harwich with services from Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands.
