A small and relatively sparsely populated county in the Heart of England,
Worcestershire is a land characterised by historic monuments, fruit orchards
and hop bines. In the west, the ancient granite rocks of the Malvern Hills
dominate much of the district, providing some of the best scenery in the
Midlands. Many old country houses add to the impressive landscape, so many
in fact, that one of the county's prime attractions concentrates on their
origins. The Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings is one of Britain's
best-known open-air museums, and features a working village complete with
reconstructed houses of the Victorian, Tudor and Industrial ages. One of the
best ways to see the county (if you don't fancy climbing up the Malverns) is
to take a trip on the nearby Severn Valley Railway. A heritage line coming
up from Shropshire; a ride on one of its steam trains is a classic way both
to arrive and to explore. Other sights you have to check out are the
romantic ruins of Witley Court, which is still spectacular despite being
gutted by fire in the 1930s; the charming spa towns of Droitwich and
Malvern; and of course, Worcester Cathedral. If you're planning a trip

county's multicoloured orchards -another splendid way to get a taste for
