 Our superb old coaching Inn is set in the heart of the town of Dorking. With its old oak beams, log fires and period furniture we provide our guests with more than just somewhere comfortable to stay. We also provide them with a unique slice of history and a heritage that cannot be reproduced.
With a history that stretches back to its beginnings as a vicarage in 1278, our old and historic building has a long and distinguished past. Originally known as 'Cross House' it was not until 1750 that it first became a Coaching Inn and the name was changed to the White Horse, since then it has provided accommodation and food for weary travellers passing through our area on their way to or from London. We are still following this tradition today, except that today we provide our guests with the very finest in elegant and comfortable accommodation, excellent, personal service and the finest food that you will find in the region.
We have 78 wonderfully well proportioned, elegantly decorated and comfortably furnished rooms, each one with its own distinct character and their own unique history. All of them have a calm and relaxing ambiance that is perfect for unwinding at the end of a long days work, a relaxing weekend break or a special occasion, honeymoon, anniversary or just a romantic liaison in one of our luxurious superior rooms which have magnificent four-poster beds. Every room is equipped with all of the modern facilities that the discerning traveller looks for in their choice of accommodation, with everything you need to enjoy your stay with us to the full.
If the weather is cool you can sit in front of an open log fire in our cosy lounge, with its oak beams and beautiful fireplace it has a positively Dickensian feel, which is probably because Charles Dickens was a regular visitor here and often sat before the same fire to do his writing.
In our Coach House Restaurant you can treat yourself to the finest cuisine, with a seasonal menu that reflects the availability of local produce, but there is always a wide choice of excellent English and International dishes that will satisfy every taste. All of our food is lovingly prepared by our talented and imaginative Chef and served in delightful surroundings, leaving you to select the perfect bottle of fine wine to complete a superb dinning experience.
