Scenic location on the banks of the River Thames - a real treat for that weekend away and close to the main attractions of Windsor and the surrounding area. Easy and quick links in to London. Lovely outlook with many rooms having balconies and river views. A warm and friendly atmosphere.

Close by attractions include the beautiful Windsor Castle and grounds and the exciting fantasy park of lego land. Close by is the charming Queen Mary's Dolls House Museum which is wonderful for taking the ladies of the family to see.

In Maidenhead itself is the Cliveden estate and gardens which date back to the 1800's - designed by Sir Charles Berry. During the 1930's it was the home of the "Cliveden Set" - known for their political involvement. Art lovers pop in to the Stanley Spencer Art Gallery and for horse lovers there is an Equestrian Centre close by.

Maidenhead Heritage Centre gives you a glimpse at bygone days and there are a number of documents, photos and artefacts on display.

Maidenhead has a good shopping selection to offer those interested with arts, crafts, jewellers, fashion shops and accessories. Nicholson Centre is the main shopping centre and there are the usual mainstream supermarkets and general stores. Discount shopping is a plenty and there are numerous toys and games stores for the children.

Not too far to pop in to London for West End treats, theatre and shopping and still get back to enjoy a leisurely dinner and a good night's sleep.

Good stuff: the location (convenient for the wedding we were attending and pleasant location on the river) and the breakfast (which was served in the lovely restaurant area and was delicious) the staff member who served breakfast was particularly welcoming

Bad stuff: we were at the front and the road noise was disturbing

Overall: I think the hotel is being refurbished? Some parts of it seemed to be more modernised than others. The room was a good size and there was nothing actually wrong with it but it did have an air of shabbiness about it. The request to have twin beds had not been picked up by the staff, although it was clearly stated on the booking which they found easily enough. They even said it would have been possible if they'd noticed but that they couldn't do it at that point because we'd arrived late in the evening!
