Banff Hotels in Banff Scotland Cheap Hotel AccommodationSince medieval times, the capital of old Banffshire has enjoyed a lively
past as a successful fishing village. In the 1800s, however, duties switched
to neighbouring Macduff and Banff now acts as a picturesque seafront resort.
Its most famous building is Duff House, an 18th-century Georgian mansion
built for the Earl of Fife. Now part of the National Gallery of Scotland it
regularly commands exhibitions major city galleries would be proud of and
attracts thousands of visitors from all over the country. An added bonus is
its "back garden", a sumptuous 18-hole golf course hugged by the River
Deveron. Across town, the Colleonard Sculpture Park is a slightly less
conventional example of local horticulture. An embrace of its sylvan
surroundings, it features 14 monumental wooden statues, some of them
reaching up to 25 feet in height. Just across the river in Macduff lies the
Marine Aquarium, one of the region's most popular family attractions. A fun
and informative day out, it's bolstered by the inclusion of many species
native to the local Moray Firth. The coast is also home to a number of sandy
beaches, both immediate and further along the shore. Every June a fleet of
boats either depart Banff or descend upon it from Norway in the annual yacht
race. As well as the spectacle itself, many land-based activities are on
offer, including a fireworks show to congratulate the winner. If you need to stay
