Sandwiched between the larger regions of Denbighshire (Clwyd) and Gwynedd is the borough of Conwy, an exquisite slice of Welsh countryside. Stretching from the heart of the Snowdonia National Park to the centre of the North Wales coast, it's a county of diversity and adventure. The mountains continue all the way up its spine to the seaside resorts of Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and county capital of Conwy. Conwy the town has remained an impressive sight for centuries thanks to its Edwardian castle and surviving city walls, which still form an almost unbroken casing around the old settlement. While the coast is home to the majority of the towns, the south still offers a handful of destinations nestled within the deep valleys of Snowdonia. Llanrwst and Betws-y-Coed are arguably two of the most picturesque - the former sitting on the edge of Gwydyr Forest, and the latter at its heart. As well as being a haven for wildlife, the area provides excellent walking, hiking, riding and cycling territory, all set to a glorious background of waterfalls and ancient oak woodland. Along its western border, the county also boasts some of the park's highest mountains (Carnedd Llywelwyn at 1064 metres, and Dafydd at 1044), which form a spectacular natural boundary with neighbouring Gwynedd.
