Another one of Buckinghamshire's magnificent Georgian towns, Marlow boasts plenty of good reasons why you should choose it a holiday. Situated on the banks of the river Thames, amidst the Chiltern Hills, it's in some achingly beautiful
scenery right at the southern tip of Buckinghamshire. It has some unique claims to fame, including its impressive suspension bridge. |
this bridge was designed and built by
William Tierney Clark and was his prototype for a later development across
the Danube in Hungary linking Buda to Pest! The town's relaxing
surroundings were identified by many, notably writers, as the perfect place
in which to work in peace. These included; Jerome K Jerome, T.S. Eliot; and
Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein here while staying in West Street. All the buildings in town have a history attached to them in one way
or another. The adjoining residences of the Old Parsonage and The
Deanery in St. Peter's Street, for example, have survived since the 14th
century. |
Once these were part of what
was known as the 'finest medieval house in the county' and for good reason!
Marlow is arguably a place best explored on foot, the Riverside Walk
here offers you one of the most rewarding strolls in the area, leading
you past sights like Bisham Abbey, All Saints Church, and of course a
good number of barges and pleasure boats making their way up and down
this beautiful stretch of the Thames. Choose from any of our cheap hotels
