East Sussex Tourism Attractions

There is a load of wonderful things to keep you and the family happy while you are staying in a hotel in East Sussex. You could try any of the well known place that are linked above to find out more. Or you could simply hop in the car and go for a run along the channel coast.

Drive Along the East Sussex Heritage Coast

So lets see what a day out in the car with the family can provide for tourists. Starting in Brighton we will go all the way along the Sussex Heritage Coast to Eastbourne. So in we get and lets be off!

  • Starting in Brighton and Hove a few happy hours can be spent in these classic seaside towns.
  • Then a drive along Marine Drive and the South Coast Road (A259) to the East will have you soon passing Brighton Marina following the signs for Newhaven.
  • After a quick look with the family at the wonders within Newhaven Fort we are back on the road.
  • Next comes Seaford where a look at the museum in Martello tower which is a real gem.
  • Also a little further, on a not to be missed attraction is Seven Sisters Country Park. There are some great walks from and around here with some absolutely stunning vistas along the chalk cliffs especially if you walk the length of the South Downs Way.
  • Further along the A259 you leave the coast as go a bit inland. This is a leafy green tree covered single carriageway in summer, but there is some more coast to see just along here if you take a diversion to wonderful Birlington Gap.
  • To take the diversion look of a signpost pointing South to Birlington Gap, Beachy Head, Seven Sisters Sheep Centre and Village Green. It leads you up a small road in the middle of the lovely little village of East Dean.
  • You can of course stop for something to eat in the village. However if you go all the way down to the National Trust's Birlington Gap, there is a lovely cafe and some tremendous views on offer. You can follow this Beachy Head Road and it will loop around and attach back up with the A259 and then you turn right (East) into Eastbourne.
  • While in Eastbourne you might consider spending some time visiting the educational and fun How We Lived Then museum for an insight into social history. Also the Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum built to keep the French Emperor Napoleon at bay is nice.
